UTHealth: The Best Place to Educate, The Best Place to Be Educated

We are proud to be named among the top five percent of graduate nursing programs in the United States and the highest ranked in Texas. Our graduates at the baccalaureate, masters and doctoral levels are in much demand, and they are contributing to the global community in leadership and entrepreneurial positions.

We offer options to obtain the Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) degree, including an accelerated program of twelve (12) months for second degree students, the traditional two (2) year BSN program, and a program for a licensed nurse to achieve a BSN or Master of Science in Nursing degree.

We offer six (6) different Master of Science in Nursing concentrations. In conjunction with The University of Texas School of Public Health at Houston, we offer a dual degree: MSN-Master of Public Health (MPH). Some programs are one-of-a-kind in the nation. The Doctor of Philosophy in Nursing degree program is the only Texas clinical doctorate which prepares clinical researchers. Our Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) program was the first in Texas to graduate students with the degree. The DNP is a practice doctorate that will prepare advanced practice nurses to be clinical scholars recognized for outstanding patient care outcomes and leadership in nursing practice and healthcare organizations. This program now offers "Nurse Executive" and "Nurse Anesthesia" options that can be completed through a part-time or full-time program of study.

As to the future, we see our potential in clinical informatics and population-based outcomes research. We use educational outreach to take education to the student. With our action-based curriculum, there are many opportunities to improve the health of the people in our community and beyond.

In addition, to ensure financial assistance to our students, we have been the fortunate recipients of several endowments that will live on in perpetuity. We must all be committed to "make a difference" so that future generations of caregivers can be educated in this, the world's largest healthcare center and by what we think is the world's best faculty.

Perhaps what challenges us most is how to create and influence opportunities for the 21st-century nurse to be a contributing partner in the healthcare arena of tomorrow. Our excellence in academic programs, practice and research has carried us far along the path to success. The UTHealth graduate of the future must meet the challenge of practicing in a model that is undergoing constant change. But one thing is certain; The UTHealth School of Nursing won't be on the sidelines. We will be making things happen! Together, we can achieve our vision – delivering innovative solutions that will create the best hope for a healthier future.
