Consistent with the mission of its parent organization, the School of Nursing will be a model of excellence. The School of Nursing is dedicated to improving the health of the people of the State of Texas, the nation, and our global community through educating professional nurses and innovative scientists who discover, apply, and translate advances in nursing as well as in the social and biomedical sciences.

To fulfill our mission we:

  • Create, apply, and evaluate new knowledge to the practice of nursing as it relates to health promotion, illness prevention, and interventions across the health-illness spectrum;
  • Provide evidence-based nursing care which is compassionate and culturally competent;
  • Develop nursing and interdisciplinary models for health care which address access, utilization, quality and cost in order to improve the health of the community;
  • Address the health needs of the community at large through research, educational outreach and service;
  • Provide nursing leadership in scholarship, practice, and health policy.
