Academic Departments and Offices

The University of Texas School of Nursing at Houston students, educators and researchers have a broad canvas upon which to make their mark. Against the backdrop of the Texas Medical Center and The University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston, nurses can explore their fields and disciplines to find where they are destined or most suited to apply their skills and determination.

The School of Nursing offers programs leading to a Bachelor of Science in Nursing, a Master of Science in Nursing (MSN), a Doctor of Philosophy in Nursing, a Doctor of Nursing Practice, and a Post-Master’s Certificate. Emphasis in a particular area of interest in the MSN and Post-Master’s programs is offered through three departments: Department of Acute and Continuing Care, Department of Integrative Nursing Care, and Department of Nursing Systems.

And, throughout the year and throughout the school, our students and faculty are supported through the Office of Academic Affairs and the Student Affairs Office.

Department of Acute and Continuing Care

The Department of Acute and Continuing Care is comprised of the Adult and Family Health division, the Emergency, Acute, and Critical Care division, and the Nurse Anesthesia division. MSN degrees are offered in the following clinical concentrations: Adult Health, Family Nurse Practitioner, Acute Care Nursing, and Nursing Anesthesia. Post-Master’s certificates are offered in all of the above concentrations, with the exception of Nursing Anesthesia, as well as in Oncology.

Department of Integrative Nursing Care

The Department of Integrative Nursing Care is comprised of the Women and Childbearing Families division, the Pediatrics division, and the Psychiatric Mental Health division. MSN degrees and Post-Masters certificates are offered in the following clinical concentrations: Pediatric Nurse Practitioner and Women’s Health Care.

Department of Nursing Systems

The Department of Nursing Systems is compromised of the Community Health division, the Gerontology division, the Management and Education division, the Theory, Research, and the Statistics division. MSN and Post-Masters certificates are offered in the following clinical concentrations: Gerontological Nursing and Nursing Leadership and Administration in Health Systems. A dual MSN-Master of Public Health degree is also offered.

Office of Academic Affairs

The Office of Academic Affairs is committed to providing the students and faculty of the School of Nursing with academic program development and support, as well as student services such as undergraduate, graduate, doctoral and school policies as well as thesis and dissertation guidance.

Student Affairs Office

The Student Affairs Office assists students in successfully attaining their academic goals by providing timely and accurate information, quality service and personal guidance.  The Student Affairs Office provides many services, such as communicating with prospective students, processing applicant documents, conducting orientation, providing financial assistance and career information, one-to-one counseling and performing commencement activities.
