Center for Teaching Excellence

The Center for Teaching Excellence (CTE) provides School of Nursing faculty and colleagues with institutional support to enhance their teaching ability. The CTE was founded on the belief that superior teachers are agents of change—that excellence in teaching results in better student performance, retention, and satisfaction. Originally supported by a Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board Nursing Innovation Grant number BUF6, the CTE is now maintained by the Director of the Center for Teaching Excellence and housed on the seventh floor of the School of Nursing.

The Mission of the Center for Teaching Excellence

The Center for Teaching Excellence will promote teaching excellence and support the scholarship of teaching to enhance faculty performance in nursing education. Greater understanding of pedagogic methodology and teaching technology contributes to more efficient learning and reduces both faculty and student attrition.

The Goals of the Center for Teaching Excellence

  • Facilitate the use and sharing of traditional and innovative teaching methodologies and technologies to promote more efficient student learning.
  • Increase faculty knowledge and skills related to teaching and learning effectiveness and evaluation.
  • Encourage collaborative teaching and promote educational research.
  • Identify, stimulate and reward excellent and innovative teaching.
