PARTNERSPARTNERS was organized in 1994 to support and encourage the students
and faculty of The University of Texas School of Nursing at Houston. PARTNERS raises
funds through memberships and events to provide nursing scholarships and faculty
research grants.
PARTNERS Board
Scholarships and Endowments
Since 1994, through its fund-raising events and individual gifts, PARTNERS has awarded
71 full-tuition scholarships and two endowed professorships. In recent years, the
PARTNERS Endowed Scholarship has grown to over $1.3 million. PARTNERS scholars include
those students enrolled in the School of Nursing academic programs. All scholarship
recipients are recognized at the PARTNERS Annual Fall Coffee.
Faculty Research Grants
PARTNERS provides seed-money grants to assist faculty in their research goals. PARTNERS
has awarded a total of 31 faculty research grants since 1996. Grants are awarded
each year for pilot projects that will lead to the development of research grant
proposals to be submitted for major extramural funding. These grants provide new
investigators with an opportunity to begin developing a research program and experienced
investigators with an opportunity to further develop their research interests.
Student Services
The PARTNERS dedicated lounge in the School of Nursing building provides students
with an environmentally state-of-the-art setting for studying or gathering with
friends and is available to all students in the UT Health Science Center at Houston.
The PARTNERS Student Services committee provides a variety of snacks and refreshments
to students on exam days in the lounge. PARTNERS also provides the traditional School
of Nursing pins to all Bachelor of Science students upon graduation at a special
pinning ceremony.
Spring Luncheon
The popular Spring Luncheon is one of the main fund-raising events held by PARTNERS.
The luncheons feature prominent guest speakers in the field of health care.
Annual Fall Coffee
Another special fund-raising event is the Annual Fall Coffee which provides an opportunity
for PARTNERS members to gather and visit with one another, make new friends, and
meet new and previous PARTNERS scholars.
