Each DNP student is assigned an academic advisor at the time of admission to the program. The advisor is selected based on clinical practice expertise congruent with the student’s area of interest. The DNP student and the academic advisor complete a degree plan and plan for the individualized clinical and fellowship experiences based on the student’s interest and goals. The advisor also supervised the Clinical Scholarship Portfolio (CSP), the dissertation equivalent for the DNP program.

Comprehensive Examination

The comprehensive examination serves as a basis for demonstrating the student’s breadth and depth of knowledge and readiness to begin the fellowship and seminar courses of the third year of the program. The examination is composed of a written and an oral component. The student is expected to demonstrate high level command of the knowledge gained from course work and supervised practice experiences. The comprehensive examination policy and procedure is found in DNP Policy D8050 (pdf).

Clinical Scholarship Portfolio

The CSP is a collection of required scholarly components that demonstrates a student’s scholarship as a clinical scholar practicing at the highest level of advanced practice nursing and provides evidence of competency in all domains of DNP practice. The CSP includes a major Practice Inquiry Project, comprehensive case studies and other components.

CSP policy and procedures may be found in DNP Program Policy D8060 (pdf).
