Master of Science in Nursing and Post Master’s — Psychiatric Mental Health (PMH) Nursing

The Psychiatric Mental Health (PMH) concentration prepares graduates for advanced practice status in this specialty area. The scope of knowledge and skills are applicable to a diversity of populations with mental health problems in both inpatient and community settings. Students that complete the program are eligible to take the Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner exam offered by the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC). Learning opportunities will focus on therapeutic skills required to work effectively with individuals, groups, and families – as well as mental health organizational entities.

MSN students and Post-Master’s students may prepare for the following

  • Nurse Practitioner
    This role prepares advanced practice nurses to care for for clients with a variety of mental health problems within the scope of the psychiatric nurse practitioner role.

Requirements for the degree or certification are outlined in the curriculum overviews. Non-thesis options are available for students seeking a MSN.

Prospective students should be aware that all School of Nursing students are required to have a computer and must have basic computer skills. For more information on computer requirements see computer requirements and recommendations.
