Master of Science in Nursing and Post Master’s
Women's Health Care

The Master of Science in Nursing and Post Master’s Women's Health Care clinical concentration prepares graduates to be specialists in the multi-dimensional care of women within a primary care focus. Health promotion, health maintenance, and health restoration are studied across the lifespan with a holistic, developmental focus. Emphasis is placed on the impact of health care practices, teaching, and health policy on women’s lives.

Post-Master’s students are limited to the Nurse Practitioner functional role. MSN students must choose from a functional role of Nurse Practitioner or Education:

  • Nurse Practitioner

This role prepares advanced practice nurses to care for women across the health care continuum. Students that complete the program are eligible to take the Women’s Health Care Nurse Practitioner certification examination offered by the National Certification Corporation.

  • Education

This role prepares nursing students for faculty positions in programs of basic professional education, staff development or consumer education. The role focuses on curriculum and instructional design, principles of teacher-learner communication, learner assessment, and evaluation.

Requirements for the degree or certification are outlined in the curriculum overviews. Non-thesis options are available for students seeking a MSN.

For information on clinical preceptorships, please see our Preceptor Guidelines (pdf).

Prospective students should be aware that all School of Nursing students are required to have a computer and must have basic computer skills. For more information on computer requirements see computer requirements and recommendations.
